From Library to Coffeehouse
Hello everyone! I am Safa Salsabeel, and today’s topic is "From Library to Coffeehouse." The library is a peaceful place where we learn and gain knowledge, but imagine turning it into a coffeehouse. That's exactly what it felt like during our visit! My friends and I gathered there, and Nitish was reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
We then discussed her other works like Emma and Mansfield Park, eventually diving into Leo Tolstoy's Crime and Punishment .We even touched on Anna Karenina.
Later, my very sweet friend Prakalya and I studied Pathetic and Affective Fallacy. For those not into literature, here’s a quick explanation:
- Pathetic Fallacy: Attributing human emotions to non-human objects.
-Affective Fallacy: Judging a poem by the emotional effect it produces in the reader's mind.
Our conversation deepened as we discussed works that profoundly affected us. We spoke about books that perfectly blend with Affective Fallacy. One such book is Pyre by Perumal Murugan, translated into English by Anirudh Vasudevan. This book is incredibly powerful and will certainly evoke a strong emotional response.
We also discussed One Part Woman and shifted to John Donne's work. You might wonder why John Donne came up in a discussion on Indian literature. It all started with Pathetic Fallacy, where we analyzed Donne's poem The Flea. We then explored his metaphysical conceits, like the compass metaphor.
I should definitely mention Dhanush, who was a keen listener and very interested in John Donne’s works. Time flew by without us realizing it. Life is short, and there’s always more to learn and explore to become the best versions of ourselves. Transforming the library into a coffeehouse was a memorable experience!
