A Wake up Call on Sleep

Hey Readers! Hope you are doing good. Here I am Safa Salsabeel, to elucidate all about Sleep.

I was pretty sleepy this morning, as I woke up pretty early and so, I wanted to crawl down in bed and I took a siesta . I gained full energy and I started the day.

Firstly, I would like to trigger you with a question. How many hours of sleep did you get last night?

Five, three or maybe you did not sleep at all last night. It's very normal in binge watching Netflix episodes , reading or staying up chatting with friends basically doing anything but not sleeping. Correct me, if I am wrong but sleep is often seen as time wasted or lost forever . Those who want to make something of themselves in life, cut down on sleep.

The national average sleeping in Japan is 5 hours and 59 minutes, Saudi Arabia 6 hours and 8 minutes, India 6 hours and 20 minutes. An average adult has to sleep atleast 7 and half hours every night. It is recommended to sleep like a log but the reality, is some will not sleep a wink or some may oversleep.

Secondly, I would like to sow my thoughts by saying " It is the quality of sleep not the quantity that is most important."

One of the most common question is people sleep for eight or ten hours yet, they feel restless but the answer is what kind of sleep do you have? There is a huge difference between quality of sleep and quantity of sleep and if you are not getting the deeper levels of sleep where your brain literally kind of refocuses and allows the body system to just clear yourself. You really don't have the nuturing sleep, that restoring sleep and you wake up tired as you went to bed. So, become a heavy sleeper and not a light sleeper.

Thirdly, I would like to draw your attention by saying benefits of quality sleep and early birds.

An average adult needs to sleep atleast 7.5 hours  every night. A person completes ninety minutes sleep cycles. By getting quality sleep you will get sick less often, stay healthy and fit, lowers the risk of diabetes and heart diseases. It reduces stress and improves your  mood. I would like to quote Akash Kandari ,"Take quality sleep as a reward for everyday hustle, Nothing else."

Next, I would like to enlighten your thoughts by showcasing the  sleep table and when to sleep.

Science says, "People are at their sleepiest between 1pm -3 pm and between 2 am- 4 am. "The best time to sleep is between 8 pm and midnight early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy ,wise and to wake up at crack of dawn and give his dose of vitamin D.

Next ,I would like to sprinkle my thoughts on ,"Effects of Sleep Deprivation". At this juncture I would like to quote, William C Dement ," Sleep deprivation is the most common brain impairment."   If you have ever spent your night tossing and turning and you already know that you feel tired and cranky the next day then ,it is insomnia

In a nutshell, Sleep deprivation is caused by reduced quality of sleep, frequent yawning, irritability, daytime fatigue and it negatively affects your mental ability, your emotional state, decision making, creativity, concentration. You could start experiencing haullicinations, anxiety, depression, paranoia, suicidal thoughts, affects blood sugar, blood pressure, increased risk of heart attack and stroke. After reading this, you would feel down in the mouth . I am not fabricating my thoughts, but this is the reality.

Last but not the least, I would like to sharpen your views by saying, "Sleep is the King and Laughter is the Queen, together forms a Kingdom and it is called Good Health."

Now, you may be pondering how to prevent ourselves from sleep deprivation. The answer is

* Have a quality sleep.

*Limit daytime naps.

*Refrain from caffeine few hours prior to bed.

*Sticking to your biological clock.

*Spending an hour before bed doing relaxing activities like reading, having shower and exercise regularly.

* Refrain from using gadgets before bed.

If you continue to have problem sleeping at night then consult  your doctor.

I hope after reading this ,you would have experienced a change of heart, as we know sleep is the best meditation. Stay tuned to read my next blog.
