21st Century Skills
Some of you might be in a flummox regarding skills required for the 21st Century. If you are in a fix, then don't forget to read this blog fully.
Hey Guys! Hope you are doing great. Here I am, Safa Salsabeel to elevate your knowledge regarding skills required for the 21st Century.
Firstly, I would like to draw your attention by asking, "What are the skills required for 21st Century?"
The 21st Century skills are the seeds which should be sown and grown in a student's life. Each skill is unique, it has its own essence and it should dwell up in a student's mind.
The 21 St Century skills can be broken into 3 categories:
A) Learning Skills
B) Literacy Skills
C) Life Skills
We are heading towards the 21st Century and in order to harvest the strength during these unpredictable times it is important to adopt the skills of the 21st Century.
Now, I would like to express my seat of thoughts on "LEARNING SKILLS". Learning skills are significant and it teaches students (3A's) Adapt, Adept, Adopt the changes in the modern environment.
Learning skills can be categorised into critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.
CRITICAL THINKING:
I would like to highlight my views on critical thinking. Critical thinking is one of the most important aspects to deal effectively with social , scientific and practical problems. Critical thinking and curosity are the key to creativity
CREATIVITY:
Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought. It empowers students to discern concepts in a different light, which leads to innovation and further leads to creativity. Make an empty space in any corner of the mind and creativity will fill it.
COLLABORATION:
To work jointly with others especially in an intellectual endeavour is called collaboration. Collaboration divides the task and multiplies success.
COMMUNICATION:
Communication is the root which holds all the 3C's together. Communication is the key aspect to maintain profitability in a company . Students should learn to convey ideas among different personality traits. Communication eliminates confusion by imparting or exchanging ideas. The art of communication is the language of leadership.
These skills will be useful for example, if you are given low budget and asked to make an ideal advertisement. If you figure it out, you have to adopt critical thinking to solve the problems, creativity to think outside the box, you should instill collaboration for working with others and have an effective communication to eliminate confusion. As we know, Problems are not stop signs they are guidelines. Follow it and have fruitful endeavours.
Secondly, I would like to shape your views by expressing about LITERACY SKILLS.
What are literacy skills?
Literacy skills centralizes on how students can espy facts and technology.
Literacy skills can be sub- divided into A)Information Literacy
B)Media Literacy
C)Technology Literacy
INFORMATION LITERACY:
It helps students to analyse facts, figures and statistics.
MEDIA LITERACY:
It helps in understanding the methods and outlets in which information is published.
TECHNOLOGY LITERACY:
It teaches how to draw a line between facts and figures.
Nowadays, agonizingly there are many rumours spreading across the internet. It is difficult to figure out which one is true and fake . Information literacy helps not to fall prey to myths.
Last but not the least, I would like to elevate your mind about LIFE SKILLS.
LIFE SKILLS are the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable humans to deal effectively with the demand and challenges of life. This concept is called psychological competency. It can be categorised into
A) LEADERSHIP
B)INTIATIVE
C) FLEXIBILITY
D)PRODUCTIVITY
E) SOCIAL SKILLS
A)LEADERSHIP:
The most important is leadership. Great leaders don't set out to be a leader they set out to make a difference . It's never about the role . It's always about the goal. Hence, leadership ultimately creates a way for people to contribute to make something extraordinary happen.
B) INTIATIVE: The ability to assess and initiate things independently is called initiative. Initiative is the privilege of picking yourself.
C)FLEXIBILITY:
Deviating from plans as needed is called flexibility. Flexibility isn't showing off,how far your leg can stretch, it's showing of how far your perseverance can stretch.
D)PRODUCTIVITY:
Maintaining efficiency in the age of distractions are called productivity. The key is not to prioritise what you schedule but to schedule your priority.
E)SOCIAL SKILLS:
Meeting and networking with others for mutual benefit are called social skills.
I would like to conclude by saying The only skill that will be important in the 21st century is the skill of learning new skills. And in order to outshine in this competitive and unpredictable times, it is necessary to hone your skills. Stay tuned to read my next blog!
