Women Empowerment
Hey Readers! Hope you are doing great. Here I am Safa Salsabeel here to elucidate regarding " Women Empowerment". Nearly a century has passed, and despite the multidimensional growth that India has achieved since, his concerns remain relevant even today. Although women constitute almost half of India’s population of 1.2 billion, they are largely excluded from participating in economic activities and decision-making, as well as access to resources of health, nutrition, education, etc. This exclusion and discrimination is reflected in low female labour force participation rates, with India recording a meagre 22.3% in 2021 in comparison with 30.3% in 1990.
I feel that this ship has sailed ,when I start pondering that women account for approximately 432 million, about 343 million are not in paid formal job roles or work. An estimated 324 million of them are not in the labour force; and another 19 million are part of the labour force but not employed. Hence, the nature of employment among women is either not accounted for in the formal economy, or women end up not having access to formal jobs due to existent socio-cultural complexities. As a society with deep-rooted patriarchy, even if women want to attain employment, the dominant tradition of female domestic responsibility coupled with social stigma limits their economic advancement and access to opportunities in comparison with their male equivalents.
Now, I would like to enrich your thoughts by asking " What is Women Empowerment?"
Women Empowerment can be defined to promoting women's sense of self worth, their ability to determine their own choice and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.
Gender equality is a basic human right and it is also fundamental to have a peaceful and prosperous world. But girls and women continue to face significant challenges. Girls are pulled out of schools when they attend puberty as they are dolled up to get married. I wanna emphasize that there is a glaring disparity between boys and girls
In the developing world, girls are considered less valuable than boys. Most of the girls are married and it sounds deep sense of disappointment and anger that around 12 million underage girls are married off.
In a country, where a strong traditional influences embarked on us from an young age. We often fail to question the concept of prejudice and relatively rigid structure that has been imposed on us from such an young age. To call a spade a spade, Women come with blueprint of being regarded as caretakers well and men are considered to be decision makers. Most of the women urban and rural are brought with a sense of preconceived notion that education is a stepping stone for finding good husband apparently the ultimate goal of women's life . Parents feel that they have fulfilled their duty by educating their daughter and what is left is marrying them off. Some Indian parents especially focus on saving all their wealth for their daughter's wedding rather than investing in her dreams and saving for their social growth. When I was pondering about it I was completely blown and it shook me to the core . Let's call the whole experience trigger number one .
Recently, I read a poem which was so emotional that lumped my throat
No Fault In Women – Robert Herrick
“- No fault in women, though they be
But seldom from suspicion free;
– No fault in womankind at all,
If they but slip, and never fall.”
It has a deep meaning No Fault In Women’ talks about how the things women may want, the thoughts they have, and the things they do are not their fault. They may slip, but they never fall. Similarly, even if they complain about how tedious their dress is or dye their cheeks, it is not because of their vanity but because of the beauty standards set by society.
Now, by getting a second wind, let's discuss why is empowering girls and women so important?
I would like to sprinkle seeds of wisdom by saying" the hand that rocks the cradle, the mother of tomorrow, a women shapes the destiny of civilization such as the tragic irony of fate that is a beautiful creation such as a girl child of today is one of the gravest concerns facing humanity"
And I would like to throw light by saying empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries. When women are living safe fulfilled and productive lives , they can read their full potential, contributing their skills to the workforce and can raise their happiness.
A key part of this empowerment is through education girls who are educated can pursue meaningful work and contribute to the country's economy later in life.
New women’s empowerment policy takes holistic view of gender equality.
Firstly, I would like to bring to the limelight by saying schemes to protect women from cyber crimes
Training is provided to college girls through the Cyber Sakhi initiative. With the increasing use of mobile and the internet, cybercrime fraud against women is also on the rise. The college girls are trained for safe use of mobile and internet, digital technology and steps to avoid cheating.
Secondly, I would like to bring to spotlight by saying "women's self-help groups"Women need to be financially self-sufficient to achieve overall progress. The baseline survey for the project has been completed and 2,241 subprojects have been approved.
In addition, the state-run Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM) is an important mechanism for empowering women and their self-help groups in the state to work for their economic upliftment.
Thirdly, I would like to trigger you by saying "Mission Mukta" Mission Mukta will be launched for the release of women prisoners in jails. The campaign is being implemented by the State Women’s Commission by providing legal assistance to women inmates in jails
Last but not the least, I would like to express by saying "Allocation of 3% fund under the district annual plan will boost the implementation of women and child empowerment schemes"
For the overall development of women and children in the state, it has been decided to provide at least 3% of the total funds received from the Planning Department to the District Planning Committee for Women and Child Development permanently for the Umbrella Scheme for Women and Child Empowerment in each district. It has been decided implement women empowerment and child development, economic empowerment of women and integrated child development services schemes.
Thus, I would like to conclude by saying that these schemes are the ray of hope for the better tomorrow. And I would like to trigger you by saying " Have courage to think differently, courage to invent to travel the unexplored path. Courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the problems and succeed."
