Climate Mood Swings Are Real

Hey guys, hope you’re doing great! So this morning around 11:00 am, I legit felt like I was walking through the Sahara Desert. The heat was so savage that I immediately dived into my AC room like it was a life-saving oasis. My brain started screaming for something cool because, honestly, the suffocation was real!

And yep, I’m here to tell you climate anxiety is 100% real  and sneaks up on way more people than you’d think.

India’s weather right now? Unpredictable AF.

My phone was buzzing like crazy with weird weather alerts. First, it said:

"Temperature: 33°C, feels like 42°C.”

I was already melting just reading that. Then, a minute later:

“Light thunderstorms and rain predicted tonight.”

Wait, what?! So the morning sun is yelling at me to stay inside with the AC, but by nightfall, the sky’s throwing a full-on water party? Imagine going to a theme park at noon, sweating buckets, and by evening you’re soaked head-to-toe from rain. I was like, “What’s the vibe, weather? Can you make up your mind?”

So what’s really going on here?

Well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this May was one for the books. India recorded the wettest May in 124 years with an average rainfall of 126.77 mm nationwide. That’s a whole lot of unexpected water on top of scorching heat!

The heatwave havoc: Not just sweat and tears

Temperatures are soaring in many states Delhi, Rajasthan, and Gujarat hit highs of 45°C+ this summer.

The “feels like” temperature, aka heat index, often climbs even higher because of humidity, making it feel like you’re in a pressure cooker.

Heatwaves are no joke they increase health risks like heat strokes, dehydration, and in severe cases, even fatalities. The 2023 heatwave in India claimed hundreds of lives and pushed hospitals to their limits.

And yes, the urban heat island effect makes cities even hotter, thanks to concrete jungles trapping the heat.

 Why is this happening?

Climate scientists say these extreme swings and heatwaves are tied to climate change shifting weather patterns, global warming, and unpredictable monsoons all playing their part. The odd combination of high temperatures and unexpected rainfall is basically Mother Nature throwing curveballs.

What’s this got to do with me? Or you?

This climate chaos is causing something called climate anxiety that uneasy feeling when you realize the weather is just... weird and unpredictable. You start overthinking: “Should I carry an umbrella or sunscreen? Will it fry me or drench me today?” It’s real and it’s affecting people, especially young folks who care about the planet’s future.

So, how do we survive and thrive?

Stay hydrated like it’s your full-time job. Water is your BFF.

Dress light, breathable, and keep sunscreen handy.

Don’t hesitate to take breaks inside cool spaces. Your brain and body will thank you.

Stay updated with reliable weather alerts (no panic though).

Support and spread awareness on climate action. Because this rollercoaster isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Final vibe check:

India’s weather right now is wild, unpredictable, and yes, kinda exhausting. But knowing the facts, preparing smart, and staying chill (literally) can make this heatwave madness more manageable. And hey, if you ever feel like screaming at the sun or your weather app, just remember you’re not alone. We’re all riding this crazy climate wave together.
