When Love becomes A Memory

The other day, my friend spoke about how much she misses her grandma, and I felt her words deep in my soul. It’s not the kind of missing that fades with time it lingers, like a favorite song that plays softly in the background of your life.

She told me about how her grandma’s laughter could light up a whole room, how her stories carried lessons wrapped in nostalgia, and how her hands always felt so warm, like they held all the love in the world. Losing her grandma wasn’t just about saying goodbye to a person; it was losing a safe space, a home that didn’t have walls.

Some days, the missing is subtle, like a quiet ache. Other days, it’s overwhelming, crashing over you like waves. It's in the moments you least expect a scent that reminds you of her cooking, a photo tucked away in a book, or a familiar phrase that feels like her voice whispering through time.

And yet, she’s still here, isn’t she? In the way her love shaped you, in the strength she passed down, and in the traditions you carry forward. She’s there in the little things your favorite recipe, the way you hum while working, or the stories you now tell others.

There’s a strange kind of beauty in this missing. It hurts because it mattered. It aches because it was real. The love you shared didn’t vanish; it’s etched into your soul, woven into who you are.

So, when you find yourself longing for one more hug, one more laugh, one more moment with her, remember this: love like that doesn’t end. It transforms. It becomes the quiet courage to keep going, the gentle reminder that you were deeply loved, and the bittersweet proof that she’ll always be a part of you.
