Lost Wings

Back in the day, my buddy was green,

A little parrot with a curious sheen.

We’d vibe together, chirp and play,

He’d squawk at dawn to start my day.

Feathers bright like neon light,

Perched on my shoulder, a fearless sight.

He’d mimic sounds and copy tunes,

Bright-eyed, lively, filling rooms.

One summer day, he flew too high,

Caught a drift, a slice of sky.

I watched him fade to endless blue,

My heart sank deep I missed him true.

Now, every time the sun dips low,

I think of him, my emerald glow.

A childhood friend, now far above,

Gone too soon, my lost-winged love.
