Brush with Danger

Hello, everyone! It's Safa Salsabeel here, and today I want to take you on a thrilling journey down the memory lane. Buckle up because this story from my 11th grade trip to Matheran is nothing short of an adventure!

Picture this, Matheran is a stunning hill station near Mumbai, known for its serene hills and chill vibes. I was buzzing with excitement but also a bit nervous about the trip. We hit the road early in the morning, and things got off to a shaky start—our driver was half-asleep and nearly collided with a divider! Luckily, my sharp-eyed uncle noticed and woke him up just in time.

Once we reached Matheran, the real fun began. Cars aren't allowed there, so you have to either trek or ride horses to get around. Naturally, we opted for the horses. We each picked one and embarked on an exhilarating 1.5-hour ride through the hills. My aunt, however, got the short end of the stick with a particularly a short tempered horse.

The ride was going smoothly until my horse accidentally bumped into my aunt's horse, turning it into a furious beast. Her horse bucked wildly, throwing her off with incredible force. She spun through the air and landed hard on the rocks. Miraculously, a clutcher, she had with her cushioned her fall, saving her from the head injury in a way I still can't fully comprehend.

As if that wasn't dramatic enough, my horse freaked out too. It reared up on its hind legs, neighing loudly. In a moment of sheer panic, I leapt off, narrowly avoiding a potentially deadly fall. The horse bolted into the forest, leaving me shaken but incredibly grateful to be alive. If I had fallen the other way, who knows if I'd be here telling you this story today.

My aunt and I were both in tears, battered and bruised. We somehow made it to our resort, where the staff quickly called for doctors. But in Matheran, even the doctors arrive on horseback, so it took a nerve-wracking 20 minutes for them to get to us.

This intense experience was a turning point for me. It was the first time I truly believed in miracles. Against all odds, we were saved, and that sense of wonder and gratitude has stayed with me ever since.

I hope you enjoyed this wild adventure from my past. Until next time, stay safe and always believe in the extraordinary!
